What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is a relatively new field using ancient yoga practices to help treat physical and mental health issues. At Kaleidoscope, we use yoga therapy in small groups and individually to assist in the treatment of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and stress management. If a client has a mental health diagnosis, it is required that they are also in therapy or treatment with another clinician.  Yoga therapy can be part of a comprehensive treatment and wellness plan and we are happy to communicate with other members of your treatment team ( Doctor, psychiatrist, etc.).

What is the difference between a Yoga Therapy Group and a Yoga Class?

Kaleidoscope’s group yoga therapy sessions differ from a yoga class because they are psycho-educational and provide time for group members to share their specific experiences and practice. We discuss topics related to group members concerns such as anxiety, stress in parenting, body awareness, share experiences and also practice yoga.

The yoga techniques practiced in the groups are designed to help in the management of symptoms of anxiety and stress by improving self-regulation, awareness, and mindfulness.

Why Yoga?

Yoga helps us find balance and create equanimity so we can live with a greater sense of peace, acceptance of what is, good health and harmony with what is around us in daily life.

*Yoga cannot substitute for counseling for those in need of therapy services. Yoga and meditation are excellent additions to therapy!
